Boat Insurance
What to expect from your cover
If you’re looking to buy boat insurance, then this is what you can expect from your cover when choosing Assist Insurance Services. Please note that all insurance is subject to terms and conditions.
- Cover designed to suit your craft
At Assist, we offer insurance for all types of pleasure craft: from sailing dinghies to yachts, motorboats, narrowboats, barges, widebeams, livaboards and floating homes. We also provide jet-ski insurance.
- Choice of cover
Depending on your needs and specific circumstances, you can expect to choose from different types of boat insurance cover options. For example: third party and passenger liabilities only or standard cover (craft damage and third party and passenger liabilities).
If you sail a dinghy or a yacht, then you can choose to be covered for racing risks at various levels – for example, charter organisation events, open racing, club racing or no racing at all.
We also offer laid-up cover for when your boat is ashore, but not fitted out or ready for immediate use, or ready to be launched.
- Standard liability
Cover for liability to third parties and passengers includes you and your family’s legal costs in settling or defending a claim, solicitors’ fees and other expenses relating to official enquiries of coroners’ inquests. We offer a liability limit of up to £3million as standard, with up to £5million liability as standard for sailing dinghies and catamarans. There is a liability limit of up to £1million for water skiing and towing of toys and there is no excess on liability claims.
- Your craft: What is covered?
You can expect a boat insurance policy from Assist Insurance to clearly specify the risks for which your boat is covered. For example, this may include: Loss or damage to your craft by accidents or deliberate acts of others, such as fire, explosion, collision, sinking, grounding, malicious acts, arson, vandalism; theft or attempted theft, hitting an object that is underwater or partly underwater.
We also provide cover to include salvage, towage and assistance charges, sighting costs and automatic transit cover for craft under 9m long.
